can we celebrate, can we celebrate isra miraj, can we celebrate isra wa mi'raj, celebrate isra mi'raj, celebrate isra wal miraj, celebrating isra wa miraj, celebrating isra wal miraj, celebration, isra and me'raj, isra and mi'raj, israk mikraj
Every year during Rajab we see many Muslims around the world celebrating the memory of Al-Isra wal me’raj, but many do not know the following facts about the timing of al-Isra and Me’raj, and I would like share some with you:
There is no any authentic narration confirming when the incident of Al-Isra wal me’raj took place , not the day or the month, as Ibn Taimyyah رحمه الله said and his student Ibn Al-Qayyim رحمه الله quoted him and supported it in his book Zad Alm’aad.
As well as Ibn Al-Ameer Alsan’ani but he added nor we know which years it was exactly. These are some of the opinions mentioned by scholars:
➤ From the Hanafi – Mulla Ali Qari and Abu Alfadel Al-Aloosy
➤ From the Maliki : Ibn ‘AbduAlbarr and AlQurtubi
➤From the Shaf’ee – Al Nawawwi, Ibn Katheer, and Ibn Hajr
➤ From the Hanbali – Ibn Al Jawzi, Ibn Al Qayyim
It was said the month of Rajab, Ramadan, Dhul Qe’dah, Rabee’ Al Awal, Rabee’ Alaakher, and some said Shawwal!
All these opinions are not based on any clear, and authentic proof.
Many scholars specifically mentioned that Rajab is a very weak opinion such as Ibn Taymiyyah and Ibn Rajab alhanbali, Ibn Katheer, Ibn Hajar, Ibn ‘Attar Alshaf’i, and Abu Alkhattab Ibn Dahyyah Almalki said it’s a lie.
Not only that but there is even bigger debate on what day or week in these months. All this discussion because nothing clear was reported or documented regarding the date from the Sahabah.
I am sure you asking yourself like I did – why?
Why did the companions did not document the date?
Firstly of all because it was not an annual occasion. The prophet صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ never used to celebrate or mention this during his life in Madinah.
Secondly because the early generations were concerned with what is beneficial and important as part of the religion.
Knowing the date is not important at all, they knew it happened in Makkah and they knew what happened during that journey and it was well reported.
Today it is sad to see that we as an Ummah care for the things they did not care for, practicing what they did not practice, and celebrating what they did not know.
It is shamefull and ignorant that we find ourselves excited to do what is bid’ah, but we get lazy and distracted when it comes to following the Sunnah.
📚 Imam Malik said:
Nothing will guide the latter generations except with what guided the first generation. Whatever was not a part of their Deen can not be a part of our religion today.
Spend your time and effort in what is Sunnah not with what is invented.
📚 ‘Aish’ah reported the Prophet صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ said: “Whoever invented in our matter(religion) what is not , is rejected”.
